Case study: HyDEP srl cuts energy consumption by 22%

HyDEP srl, an Italian industrial-grade AWE electrolyser manufacturer, wanted to improve the efficiency of its 1 MW stacks without redesigning the mechanical frame.

Implemented solution

In 2025 they replaced their conventional nickel cathodes with our PGM-free SPARKFUZE™ AWE-C200 cathodes. Installation was carried out during a scheduled 48-hour shutdown, with no structural modifications.

6-month results

  • Cell voltage reduction from 2.05 V to 1.82 V @ 0.4 A/cm² (-11.2%).
  • Specific consumption: from 5.1 kWh/Nm³ to 4.0 kWh/Nm³ (-22%).
  • No detectable degradation after 4,500 operating hours.

The investment paid back in less than 14 months at average Italian industrial electricity prices.
